Important Credit Recovery/Initial Credit Information

  • All credit recovery will be taught in-person on the Shades Valley HS campus.
  • Credit recovery will be taught using our online/blended learning platform with the SVHS-based teacher as the teacher of record. Instruction will take place in-person each day.
  • Any advanced level course credit can only be recovered as a general course credit.
  • It is the responsibility of the home school to provide all IEP/504 plans to the summer school site by the end of the first day of the summer school session.
  • Students wishing to be NCAA-eligible will take a full-course credit recovery or initial credit experience during summer school. If the student needs a full credit, both terms are required.
  • Daily attendance is required for all credit recovery/initial credit courses.
  • Advancement opportunities are for Jefferson County students only.
    • Jefferson County students in grades 8-11 seeking initial credit opportunities may enroll in the Summer Initial Credit Program. In order to request initial credit (the student has never tried to take the course previously) for an individual course, a student must exhibit proficiency on or beyond the level required for all students in the following ways:
      • Teacher recommendation (former or current) of the subject being considered for initial credit
      • Have criterion referenced or norm referenced test scores that support at or above grade level proficiency of content in the subject being considered
      • Completion of the attached form
  • Students will have two options for taking advantage of initial credit during the summer:
    • Credit Advancement: The student takes the preassessments for each standard and earns a comprehensive average of 80 on those assessments. The score earned becomes the grade for the course that appears on the transcript. If the student does not achieve an 80 average, the student will then be placed in the full-course experience, described below. The NCAA will not recognize Credit Advancement for course credit.
    • Full-Course Experience: Summer initial credit courses will be delivered in-person or virtually. Regardless of the delivery model, students will work through the assignments given under the direction of a certified teacher.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

Students with any absences during the term will not receive course credit except with verified physician’s medical excuses or verified religious absences. Religious excuses will be given for religious holidays only. Church camps or retreats will not be considered excused absences. Extenuating circumstances may be appealed to the principal. Any work missed must be made up.

TARDIES

Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to begin work at that time. Any student arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be considered tardy. Three tardies will result in the student not fulfilling the attendance requirements, and no credit will be given to the student for the course.

DISCIPLINE AND DRESS

Discipline and dress guidelines approved by the Jefferson County Board of Education will be followed. Adherence to the rules of discipline and dress is mandatory. Students in violation of the dress code will be sent home to change clothes. If a student misses a class or fails to comply with the discipline requirements, he/she will be dismissed and the tuition forfeited.

PARKING

Students will be expected to leave their cars immediately after parking.  Students are not allowed to loiter in cars in the mornings or visit their cars during the day or during break without the permission of the principal.

FOOD ITEMS

A break will be provided each day. No food/drink items besides those sold at the school may be brought on campus! We will have food available during the break.
