Program Assessment
The Stellar Teaching Program serves the 13 systems in Jefferson County (including the Alabama School of Fine Arts). We provide support for first time candidates through a system of 10 regional workshop meetings and one-on-one Candidate Support Providers. Advanced (retake) candidates also have workshops and Candidate Support Providers a well as full retake fee support for the two years that they are eligible to do retakes.
Workshops for first year candidates (all are required):
- Full day orientation to the National Board Process (in the summer)
- Workshop 1 – Writing for the National Boards
- Workshop 2 – Videotaping for National Boards
- Workshop 3 – Packing the Portfolio and the Assessment Center
Optional Workshops for first year candidates:
- Three session Pre-Candidate Program
- Capturing the Big Idea – Entry 3 for EC and MC Generalist candidates
- The Assessment Center (for EA and AYA Math Candidates)
Workshops for advanced candidates (one is required, candidates may attend all 3):
- Analysis of Student Work (Entry 1)
- Classroom discussion entries (Entry 2 and 3)
- The Assessment Center
We pay all fees for candidates except the $65 and $15 application fees that are paid online. We also pay CSPs ($500 for each first year candidate and $300 for each advanced candidate) to serve as mentors for the candidates. In addition to the CSPs, we work with 30 people designated as facilitators by their systems. These facilitators present the regional workshops and serve as liaisons between the candidates and CSPs if necessary.
