The JCIB computer whiz team that has for four years won first place in Alabama. They won for creating an app for iPhones or tablets which would be of help to the community. Their win this year was all about an app that helps the disabled population apply for a job and find places to volunteer. Steve McDaniel is the teacher and team members included Julia Neely, Margaret Neely, Camille Dansby, Alexis rooks, Sarathi Shah, Molly Morris, and Ye Chen.
 
 Art teachers were honored for their lion’s share of the wins for the 2016 Alabama Art Education Association Annual Conference. They included Kim Metro, Center Point Elementary, elementary TOTY; Chris Screws, Pinson Valley High, Secondary TOTY; Lindsay Parris, Clay-Chalkville High, Youth Art Month Contest; Casey Gillespie, Rudd Middle, Youth Art Month, Overall State
Winner; and Ashley Culwell, McAdory High, art education for being a brand new art teacher, and Jill Ritchey, who won a grant to study in Morroco. Chris Screws could not attend the meeting.
 
Stacia Jacks, supervisor in art for the Fine Arts Department, was honored by being the state art administrator for Alabama.
 
Two executives from Office Depot were honor for giving a rebate check as a reward for JEFCOED’s shopping at Office Depot. They were Andrew Klingman and Monica Harris. The check was for $36,727.04.
 
Three vendors who gave book packets to Board members for their service were also honored. The recognition is the annual suggestion of the AASB, the Alabama Association of School Boards and underwriting the gifts were the three vendors.They were Bill Leigh, Perma-Bound; Barnes and Noble’s Pam Tindall; and Steve Lowry, Scholastic. Michelle Landrum coordinated the gifting and the libraries to receive the gifts.
