JEFCOED Substantial Hardship Transfer Information

The 2025-2026 Student Transfer Application window will be open from March 15th through June 2nd, 2025.

Substantial Hardship Transfers

A substantial hardship transfer may be approved if:

  • The student or student's family demonstrates a substantial, extraordinary and compelling hardship; and

  • The hardship is unique to the student or his/her family.

  • The student lives within the JEFCOED attendance boundaries.

Substantial hardship transfers are severely limited in scope and apply only to extremely special cases of personal hardship, and not to problems related to the general pressures shared by many of raising a family, such as transportation, childcare, and housing issues. Every hardship application must be supported by detailed documentation. The Board, through its designee, maintains the sole discretion to evaluate and either approve or deny hardship transfer applications.

*Hardship transfer applications must be completed on an annual basis for all students wishing to transfer to a Jefferson County school, including students who are on a transfer for the previous school year.

Transportation is not available for hardship transfers.
