The Jefferson County School district improved from an 81 to an 82 on the most recent Alabama State report card.  In addition, 70% of JEFCOED schools saw growth in their report card grades.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our school district.  Our theme for last year was where opportunity meets success.  I think these grades are an indicator that those two things did in fact intersect,” said Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin.  “We have been very intentional about challenging our staff and our students.  This type of outcome is validation that what we’re doing is working.  No matter the zip code, students can excel if everyone commits themselves and works toward a common goal.”

“While I am very excited about these scores, we also know that we’ve still got a lot of work to do.  We still have eight schools that are classified as ‘priority schools.’  While that is less than the previous report card, our goal is to have zero schools on the priority list next year.  I know our staff is more committed than ever in making that goal a reality,” said Gonsoulin.
