Yesterday, the state capitol was filled with JEFCOED pride as Dr. Walter Gonsoulin was celebrated for being named the 2025 National Superintendent of the Year, a historic first for Alabama.
Dr. Gonsoulin received a Commendation from Governor Kay Ivey and was honored with resolutions from the Alabama House of Representatives, the Alabama Senate, and the Alabama Board of Education.
The Alabama Education Association, in partnership with the School Superintendents of Alabama, also hosted a special luncheon in his honor.
It was a day filled with gratitude, recognition, and pride for a leader who continues to represent Alabama and JEFCOED with excellence on the national stage.
"I’m thankful to everyone who works or goes to school in the Jefferson County family. I’m proud of our teachers and their efforts. I’m proud of our bus drivers, cafeteria workers, all of us working together to ensure that these children can move forward. I’m also proud of our children because if their achievements weren't evident, the district wouldn't have been considered for this award." - Dr. Gonsoulin
